I’m not the most graceful in the face of sickness. Truly. I’m no good at it. Not when I’m the afflicted one. When someone else is sick, watch out! I’MMA GONNA HEAL YOU!!! All of a sudden toothbrushes are boiling, bedding is being washed, epsom salt tubs and hot showers are insisted on, cups of honey lemon tea are brewing, essential oils are flying, soup is on… Hellooooo nurse! But when I’m sick? It’s like I forget everything I know. I turn into a long, tall, mouth breathing sniffle with watery eyes and a vacant, no-will-to-live glaze over. I melt off of whatever surface I’m on and hope that someone will walk by and notice that my days are numbered. Rarely does anyone notice unless it’s Mom and then she tosses me an aspirin and asks if I’ve boiled my toothbrush. (Isn’t someone else supposed to boil your toothbrush when you’re a sick-a-saurus? I think, YES!)
Last Thursday after lunch I felt it creeping up on me. That night was misery and Friday… Well, I’m short on PTO and I’d feel like a chump feeding my co-workers to the wolves, so I put my big girl panties on and went to work so that I could infect everyone there. Kidding. Kidding. Kidding…. Like a good girl I wore a mask all day (Speaking of being a mouth breather, something about wearing a mask turns me into one even when I’m not sick. Maybe because it’s Claustrophobic City under there and my mouth is the bigger hole to get the oxygen in? Not sure on that one…).
I told you aaaaall of that to build up to this… I have a recipe for a smoothie that tastes like the elixir of life for all occasions, but especially when you’re under the weather. It’s soooo tasty and soooo full of vitamin C for sick and weary bones. I have this lovely friend, Ves Na, who lives in Barcelona, Spain. She and I went through our holistic health coaching program together. We haven’t met in real life, but I hope that we do one day. She’s a dream. She posted this recipe on her Facebook and I just had to try it. It was a lifesaver this last weekend. Check out her website. You won’t be sad you did.
1 cup of strawberries (mine were frozen)
1 peeled orange
1 inch knob of skinned ginger (Is that how I say that?)
Juice from one lemon
I had to add a little water to get the blender to blend…maybe ½ cup to 1 cup?
I did a quick search on the Google Monster and came up with a sum total of 152 mg of vitamin C for this delicious beverage. According to this WebMD reference that is almost twice your recommended daily value. So, enjoy! And bravo to Ves Na!
In case you were wondering, I’m feeling much much better. I took the sweetest care of myself and boiled my own toothbrush.
Juicy Jam Session: I’ve been grooving on this song my sweet friend, Bree, sent me. Wolves by Down Like Silver. It’s kinda how I felt on Thursday night when I thought I wouldn’t see the dawn… (How dramatic of me to say that, right?)
